Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Announced For PS4

The existence of a Final Fantasy XII HD remaster has finally been confirmed. Square-Enix revealed the trailer earlier this morning. This release had been rumored for some time, including a leak at a live concert featuring music from the franchise. As of now, the game is only announced for PS4, this unfortunately leaves out PC & PS Vita owners and could be another sign of the Vita’s demise.

In case the name didn’t clue you in, this version is based on the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. This version only released in Japan until this point and had a lot of changes to the core game. It features a new licence board where each character is locked into a specific job, one of twelve. The battle system was also tweaked, along with a turbo mode being added. A new mode was also added allowing players to hunt monsters and Espers to gain items and gil. The revised edition also featured a New Game + mode.

All of the background, character models, movie scenes and text are all now at a higher resolution. It will have 7.1 surround sound and higher quality audio. This was one of my gripes with the original version, everything sounded too compressed. Players will also be able to choose between English and Japanese audio. As with the Final Fantasy X remaster, it will feature redone/remastered BGM. You will have the option to choose the original music though should you wish. The game will also feature shorter loading times and an auto-save function.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be available for PS4 at some point in 2017. You can check out the teaser trailer above. More details should be revealed at E3 next week.
